Anna Lederer Gordon

Anna Lederer Gordon has lived more than one life. Born and raised in Trinidad, she grew up in a household where color and class subtly shaped the contours of everyday life. At eighteen, she boarded a plane to New York City, young, determined, and carrying more questions than answers.

In Manhattan, she worked at the Playboy Club, where glamour and grit lived side by side. Later, she modeled in Geneva and London, appearing in Die Stern and other European magazines. She also studied at the University of Geneva, broadening her worldview while living far from the island that had shaped her.

Eventually, her path brought her back to the United States, where she built a career as a photographer before turning to writing. Throughout, one story kept tugging at her: the story of her childhood, her family, and the choices that marked her life.

Today, Anna lives and writes in New York. The Shape of Her Eyes is her first book, an intimate memoir that draws from her earliest memories in Trinidad to her coming-of-age in a divided world.
